The Union of General Superiors (USG) meets twice a year. For many years now, the general superior of the Schoenstatt Fathers has also taken part in these meetings, which offer a unique opportunity to engage with the shared aspirations and initiatives of consecrated life throughout the world.
The 105th Assembly of the USG was held, as usual, in Sacrofano (Rome), from 27 to 29 May 2026, to address the theme “Transmitting the charism through the service of government”. There were two main presentations, one from a biblical perspective and the other from the reality of consecrated life. Some general superiors shared how they seek to keep the charism of their institute alive through the service of government. Much time was devoted to table discussions, in which the method of “conversation in the Spirit” was frequently used.
Cardinal Ángel Artime, S.D.B., Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, who was a member of this body for 11 years, was present to listen to the general superiors. There was also, throughout the morning, a valuable open dialogue with representatives of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith: Msgr. John Kennedy, secretary of the disciplinary section of the DDF, and Fr. Robert Geisenger, promoter of justice.
