The foot prints of the priestly legacy of Fr Jiju Kilukkan

“His life was a creative response to God’s plan; his death, a quiet return to the Father he served so well.”

Father Jiju Kilukkan was a man defined by profound simplicity and boundless hospitality—a priest of the Schoenstatt Fathers (Providence Province, Kerala) who possessed the rare gift of making everyone feel at home in his presence. While serving the faithful of St. Henry and St. Stephen’s Parish in Munich, Germany, his earthly pilgrimage came to a sudden, tragic end in a train accident on April 20, 2026. Though his departure to the “Eternal Sion” was unexpected, the footprints he left behind are marked by deep faith and an unwavering commitment to service.

Roots of Faith and Family

Born on August 17, 1978, in the quiet village of Uppukallu, Kerala, Father Jiju was the youngest of four children born to Jose and Mary Kilukkan. Alongside his twin brother, he was raised in the spiritual cradle of the Infant Jesus Parish, Kollakkode (Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly).

His early education began at Infant Jesus Primary School, Kollakkode, and continued through St. Mary’s School and Government High School in Manjapra. These formative years shaped the man who would eventually become a priest beloved by all. He is remembered fondly by his siblings—Viji Joy, Sr. Bindu Kilukkan FHGS, and Biju Jose—as a cornerstone of their family.

A Journey of Sacred Formation

Responding with a creative and courageous “Yes” to the divine call, Jiju entered the Schoenstatt Fathers community on June 11, 1994. His initial priestly formation took place at the Vincentian Minor Seminary in Edathotty and Thrikkakara.

After studying Philosophy at Mangalapuzha Seminary, he broadened his horizons through practical training at Valerian Grammar School in Hyderabad. In 2002, he entered the Novitiate at Kentenich Vidyaniketan, Bangalore. His journey culminated in his Perpetual Contract on April 18, 2008—a lifelong consecration to the Schoenstatt charism.

A Ministry of Compassion and Excellence

Father Jiju was ordained to the priesthood on October 25, 2008, through the laying on of hands by Bishop Sebastian Adayanthrath. His ministry was characterized by a continuous blend of administrative brilliance and pastoral warmth. He served at St. Anthony’s Forane Parish in Ollur and Marathakkara, winning hearts with his approachable nature.

While managing the Jeevalaya Boys’ Home, he also pursued Master’s degrees in both Sociology and Malayalam. Later, as the Rector and Superior of Mary Matha Minor Seminary in Aloor, he became a “beloved friend” and mentor to countless young men discerning their vocations. His leadership qualities were further recognized by his community during his three-year tenure as a Councilor for the Providence Region, where he was known for supporting and encouraging all those entrusted to his care.

The Final Mission: Crossing Borders

In September 2023, Father Jiju embraced a new mission in Germany. With characteristic diligence, he mastered the German language and integrated effortlessly into the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising. His brief yet impactful tenure at the Laim Parish Community was a testament to his ability to transcend cultural and linguistic barriers through the universal language of love.

Father Jiju Kilukkan lived his life as a bridge—connecting people to Mary, to one another, and ultimately to God. While his journey ended unexpectedly on the tracks of this world, his legacy continues to resonate in the hearts of the many lives he touched, accompanied, and guided.
