Father Heinrich Walter, former General Superior
Prayer at the Opening of the 5th General Chapter
You have heard the voice of God,
for through you came salvation to the world.
You loved the Saviour,
trusted and served him.
By your fidelity at the Cross others gained trust.
You drew the Apostles together and
they became receptive to the wonder of Pentecost.
You were for them a window opening for the breathing of the Holy Spirit;
You were the womb of seclusion;
You were the loving gaze into the depths of the heart;
You were a tower of unwavering faith;
You were the dawn of hope;
You were the spark of the fire of love;
You were the impetus to reach for the highest highs.
your attitude has created atmosphere;
an atmosphere of appreciation and upliftment of understanding;
an atmosphere of mutual affection and respective restraint;
an atmosphere of devotion to God;
an atmosphere of magnanimity and valour;
an atmosphere of transparency and truthfulness.
My heartfelt appeal to you at the commencement of this Chapter is:
quicken among us now,
what you achieved among the Apostles.
Awaken in every one of us,
the ability to hearken and speak, to be silent and pray
the ability in helping and serving, in dialogue and discussion,
the ability in decisions and postponements!
quicken in us the openness to be worthy of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Overcome in us prestige, haughtiness and pride,
Inferiorities and injuries that we may become free for God’s will.
As Queen of Mount Sion
awaken in our sacred assembly,
the ability to thrive and give counsel,
to the glory of God,
for the wellbeing of the Church
and for greater profound service to the Schoenstatt Family.
